This book is a collaborative effort that describes the various crafts of India through the eyes of travelers, many of who are from outside India, and all of who are craftspersons in their own right. Craft tours to various parts of India have been organized by Indebo over the last three decades, and most of them were escorted by the editors of the book. In part a travelogue and in part memoirs, this book is unique in cataloguing various indigenous arts and crafts in the country. Accompanied by maps and photographs, this provides an unusual empathetic, intimate, and personal view of the crafts of India. About the Author The editors – known to their friends as Malathi and Rama – founded the travel company Indebo India in December 1979. Malathi started her career in tourism as a guide in New Delhi in 1962, and N. Ramaswamy retired from the Indian army in 1977.
