This book is a study of food practices conducted in four select Goan villages, two each from the Old Conquests and the New Conquests, with intensive field work. The study attempts to trace the socio-cultural relationship of food within the two major religious communities of Goa. In the process, the study compares food consumption patterns between the two communities, and the societal norms that govern food preparation and consumption. The book also covers quotidian Goan life which includes the worship of local spirits and ancestors, and other similar cultural and ritualistic practices among members of these communities.
